Have You Completed the EAS Survey?

The FCC is requiring state emergency management/homeland security authorities to assess the multilingual alerting capabilities of all EAS participants (radio/television stations, cable, wireline providers, etc.). If you have not already done so, please complete this brief survey by NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 6, 2017 so we can provide the FCC with the data in a timely manner.

Here is the link to the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Y3SW9N3

Please note that EAS participants are not required to provide alerts in languages other than English unless their primary broadcast language is non-English (e.g., Spanish, Hmong, Somali). The FCC has no plans to expand EAS alerting to include multiple languages at this time. The information gleaned from the survey is intended solely to provide the Commission with a broad assessment of how many EAS participants are providing multilingual alerts and what factors determine whether EAS participants engage in multilingual alerting.

Please answer the questions candidly. There are no right or wrong responses. You may need to engage other staff (programming, engineering, etc.) to complete the survey. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your prompt response (and thanks if you have already completed the survey).

Calling All Collectors!

The Stearns County Pioneer Club (SCPC) a non-profit 501(c)3, is in the process of adding a new exhibit that many of you might find very interesting.  This exhibit will feature the evolution of communications over the past century.  Included in the exhibit will be a post office and a telegraph/telephone office.

SCPC is dedicated to preserving the history, artifacts and stories of our rural pioneering past and we are asking for your help.  SCPC is looking for donations to make just that happen with this exhibit and any and all will be considered.  Items such as vintage phones, old test equipment, lineman’s apparel and tools and of course an old cord/switchboard would be great!  Also, electro-mechanical, step-by-step or x-y switching equipment is desired. Old photos, directories, instruction pamphlets and other memorabilia from the industry are welcome as well.  Again, SCPC is a 501(c)3 non-profit and we are willing to recognize donators to the exhibit if so desired.  This is the perfect chance to show off your collection or clean out the office basement or warehouse and impress upon the over 12,000 visitors the club gets annually how our industry has impacted rural America and continues to do so.  Feel free to visit our web page, www.albanypioneerdays.com to learn more about the club.

If you are interested in learning more about the exhibit or making a donation, please feel free to reach out to me at the contact information below.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Walk Safely on Ice

walk safe this winter

It is far from funny. I cringe every time I see or hear that someone slipped and fell on the ice. It might feel a bit early for retailers to start their annual blitz of Christmas commercials, but it’s not too early to start thinking about winter safety.

Each year many people end up breaking bones and busting open their heads as they lose their balance and hit the ice. Slips and falls on ice and snow was the number one safety incident that occurred last year throughout all the companies in the MTA Safety Program.

Winter-related slips and falls have a significant negative impact on businesses each year, resulting in time off work, temporary employee costs, overtime for existing employees and increased insurance costs. To avoid these costs this winter, employers need to be extra vigilant and employees should exercise extreme caution in the months ahead.

Simple Tips to Avoid Injury

  • Walk slowly and deliberately (like a penguin) and wear boots or other slip-resistant footwear.
  • Be prepared for black-ice formation after melting occurs.
  • Exercise caution when getting in and out of vehicles.
  • Watch for slippery floors when entering buildings.
  • Avoid carrying items. Keep hands empty so arms are free to move for stabilization. Use backpacks if possible.
  • Have designated walkways that are clear prior to employees coming to work.

Arvig Wins “Excellence in Marketing” Award

Arvig, the area’s leading broadband provider, was awarded the “Excellence in Marketing” Community Award by Continuum, the exclusive provider of a vertically integrated IT management platform that enables providers to scale rapidly and profitably.

“We are honored to receive this award from Continuum,” said Lisa Greene, Director of Marketing at Arvig. “It’s not something we expected, especially as a small provider among much larger companies. Our entire marketing team has worked hard to develop engaging marketing campaigns to connect with potential customers who can benefit from our services. I’m proud to see their research, planning, and creativity recognized.”

Arvig was presented with the award at Continuum’s annual user conference, Navigate 2017 in Las Vegas. The Excellence in Marketing award recognizes the partner with the best marketing campaigns and use of Continuum’s marketing tools. On behalf of the Arvig marketing team, Michael Baso and Robby Olson accepted the award on stage with Continuum CEO Michael George.

“Effective marketing and lead generation pose significant challenges in the [managed service provider] market today, and we’re always looking for those businesses that are doing things differently and driving real results,” said Mary Crogan, Continuum’s VP of Marketing. “Arvig is one of those businesses that has clearly raised the bar and we’re thrilled to honor their accomplishments with this award.”

Arvig has been working with Continuum for nearly three years. The partnership allows Arvig to provide robust managed IT services to businesses, including proactive network monitoring and management, and backup and disaster recovery services.

For more information on Arvig’s managed IT services, visit arvigbusiness.com/managedIT. Additional details about the Navigate 2017 conference and the full list of award winners can be found here.
