"NetSmartz Online Safety
Project"
Available for Ordering
The MTA Marketing &
Communications Committee is making it easy for member
companies to demonstrate their commitment to keeping
kids and teens safer on the Internet by arranging for
companies to purchase the NetSmartz Workshop kit for
schools. The NetSmartz Workshop is an interactive,
educational safety resource from the National Center for
Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) and Boys & Girls
Clubs of America (BGCA). NetSmartz uses age-appropriate,
3-D activities to teach children how to stay safer on
the Internet. Teachers can use the short, interactive
computer activities as a class with the complementing
activity cards that reinforce the safety messages. The
kit also is appropriate for libraries and church groups.
The
Kit, for third through fifth grade, is an excellent
resource for teachers because it allows them
to customize their lessons. The kit contain NetSmartz
Activities and Games Install CDs (2); NetSmartz Use Your
NetSmartz DVD (1); Activity Card Notebook w/Pledges;
Train the Trainer Guide; Poster (1) brochures (50) and
co-branded box package ((in the form of an added label
rather than printed directly on the material). The
Committee is recommending each company purchase at least
one per elementary school where the kit can be provided
to media center specialist or other staff for
presentation in the schools . Companies or schools can
present the NetSmartz Internet safety program to an
entire group of children at the same time or students
can complete computer activities through independent
learning programs at their own pace.
In addition, the Marketing & Communications Committee
will provide participating companies with contact
information for arranging to have a member of the
Minnesota Crimes Against Children Task Force conduct
training for the entire school.
Participating companies will receive a NetSmartz
banner to promote their participation and support for
this cause on their Web site. In addition, a pattern
news release will be provided to help publicize your
company’s participation and support of this highly
respected program. Other MTA member companies have
already begun providing Internet Safety related topics
to schools in their area. The response from the schools
and the community has been very positive. This is one
community relations project you’ll want to be involved
in.
