Minnesota's largest telecom trade group changes name,
elects board and officers for 2003-2004

Minnesota Telecom Alliance is new name for MTA

ST. PAUL, April 3 -- The Minnesota Telecom Alliance (formerly Minnesota Telephone Association) today announced its new name and the election results for its new board of directors and officers for 2003-2004.

MTA members at their annual meeting overwhelmingly voted for the Minnesota Telephone Association to change its name to Minnesota Telecom Alliance, effective immediately.

Members also voted to elect two new directors to the board. Brent Christensen of Madelia Telephone Company was elected to a three-year term and Dean Laliberte of Power Product Services will serve a one-year term as the board representative from the associate members. Both will be eligible for re-election upon completion of their term.

Following the annual meeting held last week in Minneapolis, the MTA board of directors met to elect officers for the next 12 months. Walter S. Clay of Hutchinson Telephone Company was elected chairman, Kevin T. Larson of Consolidated Telephone Company was elected vice chairman, Ronald D. Nelson of TDS Telecom was voted secretary-treasurer, and Michael J. Nowick of MTA was named president.

"While many national carriers have struggled in this tough economy, MTA members continue to design and install new infrastructure in their service areas to meet the needs -- current and future -- of their customers and communities," said Michael Nowick, president of MTA. "Now that a majority of our service areas are wired for broadband communication, MTA members are exploring additional services that will keep their communities on the cutting edge of technology. But it can't be done without a migration from today's regulated climate to a deregulated one that encourages more investment rather than deters it. The MTA board is ready to work with state and regional policy makers to develop strategies that will help our industry -- not harm it."
